PureStreets ISoc Challenge 2026/27
Helping ISocs serve our neighbourhoods, inspired by the Prophetic tradition of community care.
How the Challenge Works
Register your ISoc, organise litter picks and submit your results throughout the challenge. Whether it’s your first litter pick or something your ISoc already does, PureStreets will be there to support you with guidance and resources along the way.
Across the UK, two million pieces of litter are dropped every day. Through this challenge, we want to bring ISocs together to do something positive about it — caring for our neighbourhoods and serving the wider community.
It’s a simple way to put faith into action: coming together, giving back and caring for the earth that Allah has entrusted to us.
The Messenger ﷺ said:
وَتُمِيطُ الأَذَى عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ صَدَقَةٌ
“Removing harmful objects from the pathway is an act of charity”
Reported by Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه
(Bukhari & Muslim)

Run litter picks
Organise as few or as many litter picks as you like between Monday 19 October 2026 to Sunday 6 June 2027. Independent picks (outside of events organised by the ISoc) by students count too. We also encourage collaboration with other societies, including environmental societies, for these events.
-
Submit your results
After each litter pick, fill in a quick form with your university, the number of bags collected and photos of the bags picked.
-
Climb the leaderboard
Approved bags are added to your ISoc total, but the leaderboard is only one part of the challenge. Every campus and local area is different, so the real goal is to serve well wherever your ISoc is based.
How PureStreets Supports You
We help ISoc committees plan, promote and deliver litter picks with practical support throughout the challenge. Our team includes former ISoc committee members and presidents, so the guidance comes from people who understand how student societies actually work.

FAQ
Does our ISoc need to run a big event?
No. Small, regular litter picks are encouraged. In Islam, small actions done consistently and sincerely are deeply valuable. At the end of the day, this is not only about the number of bags collected or the number of people attending, but about people's intentions and sincerity in doing good.
How are points counted?
Each verified full bag of litter counts as one point for the ISoc named in the submission.
Can individual students submit litter picks?
Yes. Individual students can complete a litter pick and submit it towards the ISoc they are representing, as long as they provide the required evidence.
Can we collaborate with other societies?
Yes. ISocs can lead the challenge while collaborating with other student societies, including environmental societies. The litter pick tracker asks which university the results should count towards, rather than only asking which ISoc organised the activity.
How will PureStreets communicate with ISocs?
By default, PureStreets will set up a WhatsApp chat with each participating ISoc for updates, questions and coordination during the challenge. If your ISoc has different communication preferences, we can discuss what works best with your committee.
What support does PureStreets provide?
PureStreets provides guidance, media resources, advice on getting started, and support with equipment where possible.
